Canon CD Printer Benefits
Canon PIMXA CD Printer Series
Offering direct printing to CD/DVD & Blu-Ray discs
We’re used to technology becoming better, faster, smaller, cheaper, and Canon’s series of CD printers is no exception. I think the reason we don’t talk about how good printers have become is that paper has become much less important in our lives. But for creating CD covers, it’s worth the time to review the Canon CD printer because the benefits are plenty.
But there's a catch with Canon CD printers in the U.S. because of some patent laws, so read to the end to learn about that.
The new Canon PIMXA CD printer series offers very professional grade AND economical alternatives to the big print houses for printing to CD’s, DVD’s and Blu-Ray discs. These Canon CD printer options offer a great deal of flexibility. They provide solutions to a wide variety of print needs, from ID cards to photos, and greeting cards to documents.
The printers utilize Canon’s proprietary software, CD-LabelPrint, taking less than a minute to print a custom CD! Included with the software are a few template backgrounds but most importantly, the software offers the ability and flexibility to completely customize using your own art and text. Once the CD is designed and ready, it’s a very simple process to print. The instructions on the screen are user-friendly. I also like that the driver software by Canon uses very little system resources on your computer.
Flexibility includes the ability to print directly from supported memory cards (SD, MemoryStick, MemoryStick Duo and CompactFlash) as well as USB flash drives and digital cameras. They offer a wide range of Memory Card Slots, including Sony Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Secure Digital (SD) Card, MultiMediaCard (MMC), xD Card, Sony Memory Stick Duo (with adapter), Mini Secure Digital Card (with adapter), Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo (with adapter), SanDisk TransFlash Memory Module (with adapter), RS-MMC (with adapter), MultiMediaCard (MMC) Mobile (with adapter), and others.
The Intelligent Touch System provides direction with attractive, touch sensitive controls.
I find the main benefits of owning a Canon PIMXA CD printer summarized in three categories; speed & quality, ease of use, and connectivity. Of course, there’s the time savings of waiting for turnaround time from print houses and the possibility of returns. Each model provides a suite of features best suited for the specific needs of the customer, but all models include superior resolution, high performance, borderless printing, a 6-color ink system consisting of five dye-based inks proving exceptionally crisp text, and of course printing to CD’s, DVD’s and Blu-Ray discs.
Other features include auto duplex print, auto photo fix, calendar print, document printing, full HD movie print, filter effects, ID photo print, Smartphone photo printing, and wireless printing.
The printers utilize a system called the ChromeaLife100, which combines enhanced Fine print head technology with Canon’s ink.
The price range for this printer line is very affordable too, ranging from $100 - $350 and you only need to replace the color that needs replacing, saving money on replacement cartridges. As for set up, reviews of the printers consistently state that the instruction guide makes it very simple with easy and clear, step by step instructions.
So here's the catch. While the Canon CD printers are performing well in Europe, the CD printing aspect has been disabled when the printers are sold in the US. The good news is that you can easily tweak your Canon printer to allow it to do what it was meant to do (before it was disabled for patent reasons). You see, Epson has a pattent on the CD printer here in the U.S., but not abroad.
Here is a list of Canon CD printers that can start printing away on your CDs with a few simple tweaks and a purchase of a 15 dollar CD tray.

To see how easy it is to alter these printers, read the instructions at this link on tweaking your printer so it can print CDs.
If you don't want to bother with tweaking one of the models listed above, consider ordering an Epson model that is ready to go. You can order one or learn more about them by clicking one of the Epson CD printer image below to view the item on Amazon's website.
